3 questions with Mark Mirsky

Mark Mirsky is a Tax partner at KRD.

Q: What intrigued you about being a partner at KRD?

A: After being on opposite sides of the table with a partner at KRD in a transaction, I realized it would be beneficial to have more partners who were tax technical [like me] to bounce questions off as well as offering more services to our current client base. I realized that KRD was simply a larger version of what we were trying to create at [ROI Business Services, LLC]. By joining KRD, I knew that I could add more value to all our clients.

Q: How would you describe our company culture?

A: We are a “big small” firm. We are a firm that is continuously improving, taking care of our people, embracing change, trying new ideas constantly. I’d also say we are flexible and independent and provide opportunities to learn and advance in this profession.

Q: What’s your best career lesson so far?

A: Just like in soccer, it takes an entire team to succeed. Constantly surrounding myself with people who are smarter than me and do things I don’t has allowed me to provide more value to clients and help more people. Those same people are not afraid to hold me accountable as they should.

Q: What piece of advice would you give to emerging leaders in accounting?

A: Before you send an email, write it and let it sit, re-read it to be sure the message is what you want to say. And sometimes old school picking up the phone is best (or now Teams/Zoom).

Q: What does KRD flexibility mean for you in your personal life?

A: When I want to do something with my family, I can do it. The ability to spend time with my family and coach (soccer, kids, adults, CPAs, etc.) is my flexibility. Family comes first (including extended family) and always has. KRD has allowed me to maintain this priority in my life. My soccer coaching during tax season for a university and for a high school two tax seasons in a row shows that they allow for balance.
